Double Journal Entry #14

Chapter 7: Citizens Navigating in Literate Worlds: The case of digital literacy.

Read the introduction through to the sub heading "Studying Digital Youth" on page 102.

1. What is the purpose of this chapter?
To look more closely at Digital Literacy and how people relate to it. It is also about the enhancement of children's education. 

2. Why did the author choose to focus on your people in the Nordic countries?
The author uses Nordic countries because digital literacy is more prominent.

3. How does education differ in Nordic countries from education in other parts of the world including the United States.
It is different in that testing is not seen as important, they focus more on project-based learning. 

4. Why is more research  needed about how young people use digital media in their lives outside of school.
More research is needed because there is such a gap between the different generations and how they use digital media, we first need to understand the gap in order to fix it.

Then begin reading again on p. 110 Digital Literacies and Educational Practices

1. Why is it important for there to be more opportunities for young people to use Digital Media in school?
It is important because it teaches basic skills and is a part of their everyday culture, digital media is used everywhere. 

2. What skills do people need in order to be considered digitally literate?
People need to understand how to use technology and be able to separate the good information and the bad.
